Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Saskatchewan has proclaimed January 27, 2020, as Family Literacy Day and January 26 to February 1, 2020, as Family Literacy Week.
In 2020, all family literacy hubs have adopted the theme set out by ABC Life Literacy Canada “Take 20 in 2020!” Take 20 encourages families to take 20 minutes every day to make learning together a priority. For more information and literacy ideas, please visit Saskatchewan Literacy Network’s website here: www.saskliteracy.ca. The website includes ideas for students in Preschool through Grade 12.
Students in grades PreK – 5 will be bringing home paper copies with some literacy ideas for families.
